All
Things are delivered unto Jesus Christ
It
is clear that John 1:14 says that Jesus Christ is full of grace and truth but
verse seventeen says by Jesus Christ grace and truth comes to us as His
children. Notice the apostle John really does not desire to leave this biblical
subject.
(17)
"For the law was given by Mo'ses, but grace and truth came by Je'sus
Christ. (18) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is
in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him. (19) And this is the record
of John, when the Jews sent priests and Le'vites from Je - ru'sa - lem to ask
him, Who art thou? (20) And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am
not the Christ. John 1: 17 - 20.
It
is true that Mo'ses had something to say about verse eighteen. "And He
said, Thou canst not see My face: for there shall no man see Me, and
live." Exodus 33:20. The reason why people could look at Jesus Christ in
His human flesh is because He lowered Himself from the Son of God to the
Son of man but He still was and is the Son of God. Jesus Christ saw God
and They have the same mind and heart. This is why the true Messiah was
able to say in a future verse if you have seen Me you have seen the
Father. Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father so people can
know the Father but only through Jesus Christ. "All things are delivered
unto Me of My Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither
knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will
reveal Him." Matthew 11: 27. Jesus Christ is not hidden from God, He is hidden
in God. Jesus Christ is the way of salvation because He is the very embodiment
of grace and truth.
The
law was given by Mo'ses but the gospel is a much clearer discovery. When Mo'ses
gave the law it was a fearful thing but the grace of Jesus Christ has all the
beneficial uses of the law but not the fear because it is grace. Love and grace
go hand in hand as opposed to the law because a curse is attached to
the commandments. Jesus Christ is the very embodiment of grace and truth
but it is with reference to the law that was given by Mos'es. Grace and truth
is the performance of all the Old Testament promises but it is also the
substance of all the Old Testament types and shadows. The people in the Old
Testament had grace in picture but we have grace in Jesus Christ.
Verse
eighteen says we can receive a clear revelation of God to us through Jesus
Christ. This is very comforting to me as a child of God.
Let
me review verses nineteen and twenty. There were messengers sent from Jerusalem
to examine John the Baptist. These people were Jews from Jerusalem. They should
have understood the Old Testament that the true Messiah was at hand and John
the Baptist was a forerunner of Jesus Christ. Since they were blind through
their own unbelief they cross examined John the Baptist. The forerunner (John
the Baptist) was of the seed of Aaron and fit to be a priest. The problem
with this whole picture is the Pharisees had unrepentance in their hearts.
John preached repentance. Since true repentance was a strange doctrine to them
they obviously desired to suppress and silence him. He obeyed God but did not
desire in any way to be a great man.
He
did answer their questions. The Pharisees gave him unjust contempt. John the
Baptist made it very clear that he was not the Son of God. His role was to
point to Jesus Christ as the Son of God who is the way, truth and life. Jesus
Christ and Jesus Christ alone can forgive our sins. John the Baptist always
took the lower seat. I see some of these biblical movies that portray John the
Baptist as a raving lunatic. This man was very controlled by the Holy
Spirit.
I
can relate to John the Baptist because he always pointed to Jesus Christ. I try
and do the very same thing and abide in this biblical precept. If you do not
know the true Messiah who came to earth in human flesh at the exact time to do
the will of His Father now may be a good time to get right with God. Accept
Jesus Christ in your heart as personal Savior and Lord by repenting of all your
sins and invite the Son of God into your life.
If
you just made that decision always look to Jesus Christ in anything you are
going through and point other people to Jesus Christ. Just as the earth
revolves around the sun we are to follow the same example and be disciples of
Jesus Christ.
God
bless you,
Bob
