How to wait on God
" Our soul waiteth for the Lord: He is our help and our shield.
" Psalm 33:20. Our reward for waiting on the Lord is help and
assistance for our life with protection.
Do we need help from God in our life? I would hope so or we
are living our lives on our own which is prohibited in the Word
of God. If we did that as a lifestyle then Jesus Christ is not in
our path and we could not call ourselves true Christians.
Jesus Christ loves giving us help and assistance as long as we
are waiting on Him. He also desires to be our shield. Jesus
Christ wants to be our protection. This comforts me because
He knows exactly how to do it and when but it is always through
our faith in Him.
Waiting on the Lord takes courage but with this characteristic
comes strength. You may say, " Well I have a hard time with
courage." Join the club because we can only acquire true
character through Jesus Christ. The end result of a brave
spirit is peace.
The order to this process is (1) Wait on the Lord (2) Be of
good courage (3) God will put strength in our heart. " Wait
on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strength
thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord." Psalm 27:14.
We need to understand that waiting on the Lord is devotion
to Him. It is a very special moment between me and God.
I can't be thinking about the meal in the oven or some kind
of distraction.
It is me waiting upon God and God alone because that is the
respect that Jesus Christ desires from His Children." My soul,
wait thou upon God; for my expectation is from Him." It is pure
devotion to God and our expectation could range from receiving
His love or a simple answer to a question.
If we want to have fellowship with Jesus Christ we have to have
faith in Him everyday. If I believed in God two weeks ago for
something that was yesterday but what about today?
This is why I believe the Bible says," For we are made partakers
of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto
the end." Hebrews 3:14. There is something so special about
believing in God daily that causes our growth in Jesus Christ
to skyrocket right up to heaven.
The verse I just quoted is good but for a more complete version
of this subject Psalm 145:15-16 is really comprehensive regarding
having faith in Jesus Christ all the time."(15) The eyes of all wait
upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.
(16) Thou openest thine hand, and satisfies the desire of
every living thing."
We do get our needs and desires meant but it is in the timing of
God. Notice our Lord is generous because He is opening up His
hand to satisfy our needs and desires of our heart. Who knows
us better than God? Nobody. This should convict us to draw
closer to God because He is a friend that wants to draw close to us.
The previous verse talks about due season because we usually
want it now. Part of true faith in God is waiting for His timing
because Jesus knows best. This is not an option in our Christian
life. If we don't follow this principle in Scripture we will have fear.
" For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall
speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely
come, it will not tarry." Habakkuk 2:3.
Even though we have to wait for the promise it will come in our
ves with the honesty of God. Jesus Christ is good to us because
He is our God. He wants to meet our needs and desires of our heart.
Faith is a profession to God but doubt is wavering. Our faith in God
through His Son Jesus Christ in the strength of the Holy Spirit is
so precious to the Triune Godhead. God encourages us to have
strong faith in Him. "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith
without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised)." Hebrews 10:23.
Fast means we should be quick to do it but most Christians are
slow to apply this principle of Scripture. We will be rewarded in
one way or another from heaven but we have to be patient in our
faith to Jesus Christ.
There is something special about waiting on the Lord through His
Word. If we open up the Bible and read it with the purpose of waiting
on God He will honor this simple response of faith. When we do
this it is like we are saying, "Lord I want to be obedient to you
." This is why the Bible says, "I wait for the Lord, my soul doth
wait, and in His word do I hope." Psalm 130:5. If we read the
Bible and wait on the Lord He answers in His timing.
We serve a mighty God and He gives salvation through His Son
Jesus Christ. If you do not know Him will you come today/tonigh
t and accept Jesus Christ into your heart as your very own Savior
and Lord? I hope the answer is yes.
" And it shall be said in the day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited
for Him, and He will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for
Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation." Isaiah 25;9.
They are acknowledging God in adoration and worship and staying
obedient by waiting on the Lord. They are even anticipating that
they will be glad. If Jesus Christ is saving us in His timing how can
we not rejoice? Today/tonight is the day of salvation but tomorrow
may be when God will meet our needs and desires.
God Bless,
